2003: A Focus on Partnership Building
UNU-INTECH made substantial progress in 2003 towards its objective of contributing to informed decision making on innovation and technology issues in developing countries.
Following requests from a number of governments and research institutions, UNU-INTECH has entered into formal agreements with new partner institutions to undertake collaborative research and capacity building activities on technology innovation issues for developing countries. More ...

Academic exchange

The United Nations University at the WSIS
The big event that was the Geneva Phase of the WSIS is now over - at least until the next phase to be held in Tunis in 2005. In this Update we bring you an overview of UNU organised events at the Summit as well as some general highlights of the Geneva meeting (PDF 193 KB) .

Coping with Globalisation: An analysis of innovation capability in Brazilian telecommunications equipment industry
UNU-INTECH Researcher, Sunil Mani summarises the findings of a recently completed study of Brazil's telecommunications sector. The case study is part of a larger comparative research project looking into telecom innovation issues in Brazil, India, Korea and China.

Training and capacity Building
Short Term Training Programme to start in 2004
In addition to the existing PhD and PhD Internship Programmes, UNU-INTECH provides tailor-made and demand driven training activities for policy makers in developing countries, within the existing research framework. To strengthen these activities the Institute will launch a new training programme, Design and Evaluation of Innovation Policy in Developing Countries (DEIP) in 2004. The course targets middle level officials of Ministries of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and other technology supporting institutions and agencies based in developing countries. More information on the programme will be available shortly on the website.
PhD training: Four new students joined the programme in 2003. This brings the total number of students enrolled on the programme to 23, drawn from 17 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. An additional two students (from India and Liberia) attended the 3-month PhD Internship Scheme at the Institute. REMINDER! PhD Internship Programme Deadline 15th January 2004
