NEW: The English version of a 10-minute UNU-INTECH promotional programme is now available online at the UNU video portal. The programme was originally broadcast on a local station, TV Limburg, Maastricht, in December 2004. First steps towards greater INTECH/MERIT collaboration The first steps have been taken towards realizing the goal of greater collaboration and a possible merger between UNU-INTECH and Maastricht Economic Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (MERIT). At a recent two-day symposium students participating in the joint MERIT/UNU-INTECH PhD Programme on Economic and Policy Studies of Technological Change presented their research topics and reported on progress toward completing their degrees. This successful event will be followed by two research seminars planned for February and March 2005 where researchers from both institutes will present their research projects and exchange views on how best to tap into potential synergies and to identify research themes for an integrated Institute. UNU-INTECH investigates the impact of TRIPS on access to medicines in developing countries UNU-INTECH has completed a detailed survey of the top 100 Indian pharmaceutical companies as part of a project to investigate the likely effects of introducing product protection for pharmaceuticals on the prices of new medicines in developing countries. Coordinated by Dr. Padmashree Gehl Sampath, the study will contribute to the work of the World Health Organization in this area. More ...
