DEIP , continued. Organised by Dr. Sunil Mani, the course was aimed at middle level officials of Ministries of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and other technology supporting institutions and agencies based in developing countries. The main objective of the course was to provide the participants with a holistic view of specific innovation policy instruments and to attempt at a concurrent evaluation of these instruments. Twenty one participants from 11 countries (Brazil, China, Costa Rica, India, Iran, Mexico, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Africa, Thailand and Vietnam) attended the inaugural course. Resource persons were comprised UNU-INTECH faculty (Lynn Mytelka, Sunil Mani and Lea Velho) as well as colleagues in other institutions - Tsunheiro Otsuki (World Bank), Louk de la Rive Box (University of Maastricht), Bart Verspagen (Eindhoven Centre for Innovation Studies), Pierre Mohnen (University of Maastricht), Paul Crowley (European Union) and Ken Guy (Wise Guys, UK). An important aspect of the course was the opportunity it provided for exchanges among the participants, through their presentation of case studies on specific topics. Following the positive response to the programme, UNU-INTECH intends to organise similar courses in future. Information on follow up DEIP courses will be posted to the website as soon as it is available. For more information on the programme, please contact: Ms. Eveline in de Braek . |
