CALL FOR PAPERS

MERIT/UNU-INTECH – PhD Seminar Series

The new PhD seminar series at MERIT/UNU-INTECH provides an opportunity for PhD students to present their work to the larger academic community in Maastricht. Presenters should be PhD candidates in the social sciences, preferably working on economic and socio-cultural issues related to technological change in developed or developing economies. The seminars are open to all. The aims of the seminars are to allow students to:

  • receive feedback on their work-in-progress or completed papers from other students and researchers;
  • hone their presentation and academic discussion skills;
  • benefit from cross-fertilization of ideas through a discussion session that will follow each seminar;
  • provide the space and opportunity for building a network of students and scholars interested in technical change.

The seminars will be relatively informal with emphasis on creating an environment that encourages students to share their ideas as freely as possible. The seminars are expected to take place once a month on Wednesday afternoons and to last about one hour with the last 30 minutes reserved for discussion. Presenters are required to send abstracts and, whenever possible, complete drafts of their papers one week before the presentation. In order to enrich the discussion following the presentation, each presenter is strongly advised to request at least one of her/his colleagues to read the paper before the presentation and to act as a discussant during the session.

The seminars will take place in Conference Room 1, UNU-INTECH, Keizer Karelplein 19, 6211 TC Maastricht.

If you would like to present or contact us, please send an e-mail to: phdseminar@intech.unu.edu
